Worst cell phone I've ever had! 2010-07-09 |
| By Karen Drevo (NORFOLK, NE, US) |
| Verizon has replaced this phone for me twice, installed a new battery once. upgraded the software numerous times and it is still a piece of crap. Verizon insists "no one else" has had problems with this phone--I don't believe them! Every call I make or receive, the person I am speaking to will suddenly not be able to hear me. I can hear them but they cannot hear me. I wish I had a nickel for every time the person I am speaking to says, "Are you there? I can't hear you." I have owned several cell phones over the past dozen years and have never had a problem with reception until this phone. If Verizon does not make this "right," then after 12 years with the same company, I am ready to jump ship. |
Requires a hidden $9.99/month data plan 2010-03-05 |
| By Stanislav Alekseev (Watertown, MA) |
| Turned out that Verizon automatically requires a $9.99/month data plan as this is considered a "Multimedia Phone". Amazon refused to take the phone back based on the fact that they have misrepresented the information on their web site and promised to charge me $250 for deactivating this phone. |
Nice. I use it mostly as an mp3 player 2009-11-01 |
| By Tim Mooney (Westmont, IL United States) |
I have this phone, and I like it. I use it more often as an mp3 player than as a phone, and this review will only talk about music.
I don't much like the process of transferring music from my PC to the phone. At first, I tried to use it as though it were a USB flash drive. I got this to work, but there were problems: many tracks showed up twice, and I couldn't copy mp3 files I purchased from amazon.com to the phone.
Then I started using Rhapsody to transfer files. On the whole, I don't much like Rhapsody, but at least it's less of a pain than iTunes. This works for all of my mp3's, but it's really slow, compared to just copying to a flash drive. I've discovered that some phones are intended to transfer files like a flash drive, and some are not. Too bad I received the kind that is not. On the plus side, this phone is engineered to allow you to download music directly to the phone from an online vendor. This is not a plus for me, but I'm sure some folks will like it.
I also like the ability of this phone to send high quality stereo music to bluetooth headphones. (I'm using Audiovox's ARWH1 bluetooth minibridge to receive the signal and drive a standard set of stereo headphones. It's nice to listen to music without getting tangled up in wires. You can also use headphones with a microphone to talk on the phone, but I haven't tried it. If you're interested in this, you need to make sure the bluetooth device supports A2DP.) |
Horrible Handset 2009-10-06 |
| By G. Lavigne (Portland, ME United States) |
| This is my fourth flip phone. The Motorola I had was great but the service provider was lousy. The VX8300 was a terrific unit and never let me down. I picked up a Flipshot for the great camera but washed the thing and killed it. Thinking the VX8360 would be at least as good as the 8300 was a mistake. This thing sounds bad, opens awkwardly, doesn't vibrate enough to let me know there's a call when it's in my pocket and gets terrible reception almost everywhere I go. Even the battery life is disappointing to me and I'm NOT a long talker. LG really dropped the ball on this one. Verizon should really upgrade their return policy. |
Average at best 2009-09-28 |

Had to pay $200 for this phone after I discovered my first free Verizon phone (The Knack) could not get reception in the middle of one of Verizon's largest claimed reception areas. They told me this one might be better. It is. If I move around while talking I can sometimes get 2 bars (one bar for each hundred dollars I guess). I use only the phone (yeah, I'm an old guy). Had to have Verizon block web access because I kept hitting the unmarked web access key (costing me $4-$5 each incident, even though I always shut down before actually getting connected). Discovered I'm not the first to have to do this. Large keypad and display text are good for older users. Voice dialing of stored names is fair. Battery life has been good for me. Blue Tooth with a headset works well. I prefer a speakerphone to a headphone. This is one of the worst I've owned. A 3-step process for both receiving and calling: Got a call? Flip open. Use "send" key to answer. Now hit "speakerphone" to turn it on. Impatient callers will have hung up by now, especially if you let the phone ring a couple of times before answering. The speakerphone button cannot be used by itself to call out or receive calls. Both my speakerphone and earphone reception are broken, with constant drop-outs, always sounding like I have a really bad signal (bad circuit board joint?). Speakerphone is useless in a vehicle, unless you hold it near your face, negating the whole point of "hands-free". Difficult to open the flip with one hand. I often leave it lying open to avoid having to paw at it. Side buttons preclude use of most firm-fitting generic holsters. And you WILL be hitting those side buttons frequently, whether you want to or not. LOOKING at this phone will scratch it. Software can be cumbersome, often requiring an extra step or two beyond other phones I've used (ie. setting an alarm, or setting to vibrate). If you frequent Karaoke bars, or were born after 2001, you might actually LIKE the provided ring-tones. For me, this has been a mediocre phone with poor reception and poor sound quality. Pay for this one at your own risk. Note: Reception may be Verizon's fault. It's hard to say. Their coverage is NOT as good as claimed. I'll be returning to Sprint next time around for that reason alone.
