This is the worst phone I have ever had!!!!! 2010-08-31 |
| By Vixen (Michigan) |
| Overall I love the body of the phone and the many possibilities that this phone has, when it works that is. I am currently on my third SIM card (each time resulting in me not having phone service for 24 hours cause the retail store was closed) as I am a cell only customer and when I get a signal to make calls (when I get a signal that is) they usually drop. Not to mention that I do not receive 90% of my incoming calls or text. The Wi-fi is spotty at best (even when connected to my home network it won't find the signal). I have only had this phone since April 2010 and I'm going to trash it and head to another carrier that has better phones. |
Never buy a MotoBLUR phone. 2010-07-17 |
| By Angus Ware |
Whatever benefits come with the CLIQ - the hardware, the Android platform etc., there is a depressing reality about it: it uses MotoBLUR.
BLUR is Motorola's answer to HTC's Sense - both skins on top of Android that add or replicate functionality with more gloss and style (at least in the case of HTC). BLUR is slow, ugly, glitchy, drains the phone's battery life and takes some interface and functionality decisions that are bizarre and completely and utterly moronic.
Here's a perfect example: BLUR includes a messaging widget that allows you to read and reply to SMS and emails without opening either app - you can do it from the home screen - but some genius decided that the default reply phone number for a contact should be their landline phone as a preference over the number that actually can receive SMS messages (a contact's mobile number)... has anyone at Motorola even used a phone?
Likewise BLUR is built on top of Android 1.5. Android 2.1 introduced most of the benefits of BLUR, Facebook and Twitter integration, and other phones such as the Motorola Charm and the Droid X run their own 2.1 versions of BLUR, meaning that Motorola have no commercial interest in updating their 1.5 phones, because users will soon see that BLUR is a pathetic excuse at an Android skin that no longer provides any functionality: they literally used an outdated version of the OS and then built the newer features themselves so they can make the phones look like they stand out amongst the more updated crowd (they don't stand out at all because everyone else has the same features).
2.1 may never come to the CLIQ, it has so many hardware issues (touchscreen unresponsive or over-responsive, poor battery life, hinge feels flimsy), and BLUR is such a pig of an Android skin that I would never recommend anyone never buy a CLIQ, a MotoBLUR phone or any Motorola phone targeted at the casual phone user ever again. It's a poor excuse for a phone. |
Outdated software with poor support 2010-07-16 |
| By Totalimmortal042 |
Terrible experience with this device. It is a decent phone from a hardware perspective, but it is running Android 1.5, and is one of only two phones left on the market running this outdated OS (the other being its brother phone, the Cliq XT). Motorola has announced an approximate date for upgrade twice, only to wait until the last minute to announce delays in updating the phone to Android 2.1. Without 2.1, there are a growing number of apps that will not work on this phone because they require at least 1.6. If you are serious about Android and want a version with less intrusive "bloatware," check out HTC phones. Even Samsung devices (minus the Behold II) are going to be better options than Motorola. If you are interested in "rooting" your device, or flashing custom ROMs, definitely check out HTC, as Moto has recently announced they will locking their bootloader, similar to the iPhone, to prevent any type to modification to the software
Bottom line... Stay away from this device unless you are ready for a headache. Pay the extra $30-$70 for a better phone. It will be well worth it! |
Poor Customer Service from Motorola 2010-07-15 |
| By kkt |
The phone itself is good, however it is the customer support from Motorola that I found to be very poor. Motorola is still dragging its feet on upgrading the OS on this Phone from 1.5 to 2.1 despite have first said it was coming in January 2010, then pushing to Q2, and finally on the last possible day of Q2 saying they were delaying it until further notice.
My main reason for getting this phone was that it had the Blur Service, would be upgraded to 2.1 shortly. Blur has had its share of issues with data delays etc. 2.1 is yet to come. |
Great Phone in Need of More Thought 2010-05-20 |
| By Brian C. Reed (Bakersfield, California USA) |
I bought this phone after owning a Blackberry for a year with Sprint. I had been with Sprint for over 10 years but dealing with them and that horrible Blackberry was too much. I bought the Cliq at Radio Shack (highly recommended) and got it for $50. The sales guy was extremely informative and answered every question I had. It was a great experience.
The phone is great as well. I have had zero problems with it accepting my blue tooth, its reception is good and all of the calls are clear. I love the Android OS. I have customized my screens so they are not as crowded as they are when you pick up the phone new. The apps I have downloaded are great and free. My wife is wishing she had gotten this phone as well.
The only thing I wish it had was a physical button to answer and hang up the phone. I also would like a flash for the camera and image stabilization there as well. That's it. The battery goes two-three days if I am not constantly on Facebook or online. It's a great phone and I look forward to having it for the rest of my contract. |
