Customer rating is 4 of 5  Sensor, A Good One   2010-07-28
By juncay (Hefei City, Anhui, China)
I had a hard time turning on-and-off this sensor, maybe I just don't know how to follow the instruction manual :-). Anyway, I am running almost everyday so I keep the sensor ON all this time.

Generally, the sensor is good and it is cheap.

I didn't know that I only need the sensor with my 3rd Generation iPod touch (and not the plug in adapter) so imagine my joy of having to spend $20 instead of $30. I put the sensor in the left Nike+ shoe, walked around the way the app told me to and did a mile on the track, calibrated the iPod and it's been "fun" ever since; please note that I detest jogging but the ease of use for both the sensor and app make the routine of walking tolerable. The Nike+ website is easy to use and I like that I get acknowledgement for my jogs/walks. If you need some kind of incentive to get your @ss off the couch (like me), this is a great/easy way to do it.
Customer rating is 3 of 5  Dont ever turn it off!   2010-07-22

I like Nike+ a lot. I run about 30 miles a week and over the past year I have found it to be a great tool. Needless to say I cant run without it, so I will say no more in terms of positive words.

However there are two major issues.

1. Calibrating it is hard. To get an accurate read on your runs it must be calibrated correctly, getting this down means spending a full treadmill run trying to get it right. Sometimes I am doing an all out sprint and it has me doing 3.4 miles per hour. Very frustrating but once you get it right...it is great.

2. There is a way to turn the sensor off if you not using it for a while or if your traveling. I have turned the sensors off three times for different reasons and every time they dont come back on and I need to buy a new one.

Otherwise Nike+ is the best way to manage your runs outside of a $200 GPS watch.
Customer rating is 5 of 5  Love Sensor, Wish Battery Was Easily Replaceable   2010-07-22
By llhelix
I've been using the Nike+ system for several years now. The only slight complaint I have is that the battery is not easily replaceable. I tried using the instructions at this website [...] but it didn't really work out for me. Maybe I didn't reconnect the battery correctly? One note if you do plan to attempt to replace the battery yourself, you should get one of those pouches instead of using the built-in Nike+ slot in the bottom of the shoe. I've gone through several sensors and they all get sort of beat up towards the end of their lift. I took a look at several of my old sensors and saw that the plastic was cracking in some areas. So I imagine if you use one of those pouches above the shoe, it won't undergo so much beating.

Even if you can't replace the battery, I guess it's not TOO big of a deal. At 19 bucks a pop, you just really want this thing to last a good amount of time before you have to replace it. What I've found is that it helps a lot to put the sensor to sleep after every use. I did a little experiment. For one sensor, I never put it to sleep, but I also never used my running shoes except for running. So theoretically it would save battery because it wasn't moving. However, for the next sensor, I made sure to remove the sensor from the shoe and hold the toggle switch for 3-4 sec to put it to sleep. On the next run, I woke it up by pressing the toggle switch a few times until my ipod recognized its presence. I repeated the sleep/wake procedure for each run. I found that the sensor lasted several months longer this way.

I should note that I run pretty regularly 3-4 times a week with distances varying from 4-10 miles.

This is the second sensor I have bought after the original one lasted about 10 months of 3-4 times of week use. The first one sent to me was dead, the replacement as well. I suggest buying in the store, I have a feeling these have been sitting around in a warehouse since 2008 (the date on the box). Like always, easy to do returns though so if you are willing to chance it....
